Celtic Illusion- Halifax Victoria Theatre
All the way from Australia for this dance company and everything is green tonight, even the theatre interior is lit up Shamrock style.
The ensemble is made up of four young women and men and they breeze on to the stage for the opening dance ,dressed in green and black with green lasers somehow dazzling from their hands! It’s all go,a flaming torch is passed through a small cage set to one side to show it is empty, and when the cover is pulled away a girl is now in the cage! This set the tone for the show spectacle.
Mixing traditional Irish dancing with illusion would seem a bonkers idea but yet it works, forming a variety show like no other, along side violinists and flutists plus the occasional solo singing spot.
It’s fantastic to see the quickness of feet from the dancers and the quick change of costumes both off stage and on with help from some magic! just as magical was ,the sound of the hard taps on the wood stage rattles out,the choreography was intense.
The illusions aspect may divide some audiences.
